Card Sketch #54

July is almost over and so it's time for our last sketch of the month at Sketch N Scrap!  Here is the sketch by me:

And here is my card based on the sketch:
Supplies Used: Patterned Paper: Stampin Up & We R Memory Keepers; Card stock: Stampin Up;
Stamps: Stampin Up- Lovely as a Tree & Simply the best; Ink: Stampin Up True Thyme; button: unknown.

I decided to go more shabby chic on my card. I also decided to make it one that could be used for either a male or female and one that is rather generic in theme as I didn't really have an immediate need for a card at the time I created this.  Feels kind of good to be building my stash of cards back up as it is always hard to find time to make one on the spur of the moment when you need one!  The DT at Sketch N Scrap did a wonderful variety of cards using this sketch so make sure and check them out!  You still have time to play along with the sketch, the link up closes on July 31st at 7 pm!!!
Happy Crafting friends!

Twistback Thursday sketch

It's the second Thursday folks and that means we have a new Twistback Thursday sketch at Sketch N Scrap!!!!  This month Heather is hosting our challenge and is challenging us with this fun sketch I created all the way back in October 2013!!!  Take a peek at the sketch:

Besides using a sketch from our archives we also add a "TWIST" to the challenge and this month the twist is to USE VINTAGE/OLD PHOTOS on your layout you create using the sketch above!!!!  Here is my take on this fun challenge:

Supplies Used:  Patterned Paper: Fancy Pants Swagger; journaling spots: Crate Paper; Stickers:
Fancy Pants Swagger; enamel dots: MME; chipboard car: Farmhouse Paper Company

I will tell you after doing this challenge I realized how FEW pictures I have of my childhood!!  Gosh, my family just never took pictures!  These are the only 3 pictures I have of my Gramps!! So sad really, I got a lot of pictures from family members and have scanned them all into my computer as I don't want to glue down the originals!  It feels good to know now I have them preserved digitally and now in my scrapbook!  My Gramps was quite a character as you can see in the bottom left picture!!  There he is wearing a handmade pot holder on his head to protect his head from the snow outside!!  He was always cold and wore layers upon layers of clothes and even had electric socks he wore in the winter!  He was funny, fun loving and an all around awesome guy! I miss him everyday!  He lived down the road from us when I was growing up so I was lucky enough to be able to see him practically everyday, wow, what a blessing that was!  Instead of writing all my stories on the front of the layout (there just wasn't enough room for them all!) I included a poem my cousin wrote about Gramps (he also wrote a song about him) which basically sums him up!! I will type up my personal memories and attach them to the back of the layout, I am also getting the song my cousin wrote from him and will be adding that to another layout I plan to do.  I know the poem is in small print on the photo so here it is:
Paint me a picture of your grandfather I was told, and so I chose the brown of dirty fingernails & the inky black of greasy hands, dusty tan for Nebraska grit, golden hues for the sun dripping heat on the restless fields.  I'd wash the canvas in milo green & dab my brush in Summer blue, red for the old barn & rusty hinges, white for simplicity & pebbles in the road. I'd remember the whiskers & early mornings, color the cuss words, the peanuts & the lightning pinching the horizon.  His portrait would smile & spit tobacco & tell tales of tramps & the big bad wolf.  He would start the tractor & feel the soil, love the land & weep in September & May.  Grandpa would jiggle his change & wind up his clocks, pull out the stickers & open his Bible.  He'd spoon up his cornflakes & hate to do dishes, he'd go shopping at Kmart & get sticks in his stocking.  Grandpa lives by the windmills, the storm cellars, the dirt roads.  I live by the stop lights, the traffic, the neon.  I'd reach out to his world & I'd finish the picture ~ by Gary Wann
I hope you will take a stroll down memory lane like I did and dig through those old photos to find a few to use!  The funny thing is this layout only took an hour or less but the time I spent looking at all the old photos and reminiscing was MUCH longer but SOOOO worth it! I remembered things I hadn't thought of in a long time and shared those fun memories with my son, it is a great way to relive the "old days" with your kids and pass along some of your history to them!  Thanks Heather for an awesome challenge! You have until the end of the month at play along, make sure and check out all the inspiring layouts by the DT HERE.  This challenge was a great reminder to me why I scrapbook, prizes are fun and the papers are pretty but passing on your memories, your heritage to the generations to come is PRICELESS my friends!!

Sketch N Scrap #84

Can you believe it is July 1st already?  Wow, the summer is flying by I need to get better organized and get moving on my Summer bucket list!  The first of the month always means a new sketch at Sketch N Scrap, here is our first sketch of the month by yours truly:

And here is my take on the sketch:

Supplies Used: Grid paper: Scenic Route; Patterned Paper: Echo Park & Bo Bunny; Stickers: Pink Paislee
& Echo Park; letter stickers: Making Memories & American Craft Thickers; enamel dots: MME

I really dug into my stash for some of these things!! I bought like 200 sheets of this grid paper when Scenic Route went out of business, LOVE this paper my favorite background paper of ALL time but over the years I have used most of it, going to be so sad when it is all gone!!  I also used some REALLY old alphas, in fact they had lost their "stickiness" so I had to glue them down!! Love these pictures of my sweet nephew at the splash park!  I talked to him the other day on the phone and when we were ending the call I said "Goodbye sweetie" and he said "Goodbye Honey".  SOOO adorable that boy is!!!  Miss him so much!  I hope you will find time to join us at Sketch N Scrap this month, we love to see what our wonderfully creative readers are up to!!  You can check out the great eye candy our DT created and find out all the nitty gritty details of how to play along HERE! Stay cool my crafty friends!!!
